Ed Hirs is a Managing Director for Hillhouse Resources, LLC, an independent E&P company developing a portfolio of onshore conventional oil and gas prospects on the Texas Gulf Coast. Previously, Ed was CFO of DJ Resources, Inc., an early leader in the Niobrara Shale where he completed equity fundings, bank financings, audits, and hedging. In 2010 Ed monetized DJ’s assets, and the investing partners have now realized a 12-times cash-on-cash return, which continues to grow annually from overrides on wells drilled on the Niobrara acreage. Prior to joining DJ, Ed managed Hirs and Company, the successor to Niven Associates, a boutique investment banking firm in Houston. He has published pieces on energy topics and corporate governance. He founded and co-chairs an annual energy conference at Yale University. He has been interviewed by Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Houston Chronicle, Bloomberg Business News, American Public Media Marketplace, Al Jazeera, RT television, and national networks ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox. He founded and chairs an annual energy conference at Yale University. Ed is one of the inaugural University of Houston Energy Fellows where he teaches the undergraduate and graduate Energy Economics courses and has taught undergraduate and graduate economics courses since 1988. He has also taught at Rice University and Yale University. Ed holds the CFA designation. His degrees are from Yale University: BA with honor and Distinction in Economics, MA in Economics, and MBA.
